In reaffirming its commitment to the African Union’s Agenda 2063 continental development blueprint, Malawi through President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has received letters of credence from the newly appointed AU Southern African Regional Office Ambassador, Hilda Suka Mafudze, at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
Mutharika expressed Malawi’s strong relationship with the AU and AU-SARO, noting that the country has aligned itself with the Agenda 2063 vision which seeks to build “The Africa We Want” through the implementation of Malawi 2063, the country’s long-term development strategy targeting transformation into an industrialised upper-middle-income economy. He assured Mafudze of the full cooperation and support of both the government and people of Malawi and expressed hope that her diplomatic mission would strengthen relations in key areas like agriculture and food security, climate change mitigation, trade and investment, education and peace and security.
In conclusion, Mafudze commended Malawi’s development focused initiatives as well aligned with AU priorities. The AU-SARO was established in 2001 to strengthen cooperation between the AU and southern African countries and regional blocs including SADC and COMESA.
