Illovo Sugar Malawi Plc has reaffirmed its dedication to national economic development by providing a K22 million sponsorship to the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry for the upcoming 2026 Lakeshore Business Leaders’ Summit. Scheduled to take place from April 22nd to 24th at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi, the premier event is set to convene a high-level assembly of policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry captains. The sponsorship was officially handed over at Illovo’s head office in Limbe, where the partnership was celebrated as a cornerstone for fostering a more transparent and competitive Malawian economy.

The summit will be held under the theme of leading with purpose through the harness of transparency and accountability, a concept designed to address the foundational requirements of a stable business environment. During the handover ceremony, MCCCI Chief Executive Officer Daisy Kambalame highlighted that the theme was specifically chosen to tackle the issues of policy unpredictability that have previously hampered business confidence. She noted that for the country to achieve growth led by the private sector, governance must serve as the primary anchor for all reforms in sectors such as trade, energy, and taxation.

Managing Director of Illovo Sugar Malawi, Ronald Ngwira, emphasised that the principles of ethical leadership and clear accountability are central to the company’s long-term operations in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. He noted that as a major contributor to food security and rural employment, Illovo relies on trust-based relationships with regulators, growers, and the community. By supporting this platform, the company aims to encourage constructive dialogue that aligns with national priorities and supports the predictability required for long-term investment.

The summit combines policy engagement and leadership development, with sessions from various government ministries and an annual general meeting to appoint new leadership. With an expected attendance of 160 delegates, the event will feature a keynote address by transformational leader Nyimpini Mabunda. The ultimate goal of the gathering is to produce actionable policy recommendations and strengthen the bond between the public and private sectors to ensure lasting economic stability.

Reflecting on the impact of the collaboration, MCCCI Chief Executive Officer Daisy Kambalame stated: “Illovo’s commitment ensures that we can deliver a truly world-class experience, enriching engagements, and meaningful networking opportunities, reflecting a deep, enduring commitment to advancing Malawi’s business landscape.”
